We Made It...

By Jenny the last Monday of the year. Congratulations! It is no small feat.

I've just finished with two straight weeks of houseguests--whew!--so this post will be short and sweet. Thank you to everyone who stopped by The Writing Bug this year. We appreciate your visits and comments more than we can say--and we're writers, for heaven's sake.

As you reflect on 2013, please take a few moments to give yourself a special writer's pat on the back for everything you accomplished this year. Perhaps you had all kinds of exciting successes--representation, publication, a reprieve from frustration. Those are easy to celebrate, and celebrate them you should.

But often our victories are smaller. Attending a class, taking a stab at NaNoWriMo, getting up the nerve to pitch at a conference, sending another query five minutes after receiving the dreaded 'no thank you' email...without these efforts, we stagnate, so take credit where credit is due.

Even if you didn't write a single word this year, if you at least thought about writing, if you had an idea that inspired you, that made you think maybe next year...

I have news for you. Next year is right around the corner.

Best wishes to you in 2014. I hope all of your writer's dreams come true!

What do you hope to accomplish with your writing in the new year?

You are a brave soul to house guests for two weeks. I worked hard on my blog this year, but need to concentrate on novel more in 2014.

Happy New Year, Jenny!

This last year is like a blur to me, so I'm hoping to slow down, be present in the moment, and keep my To Do list as short as possible.

Thanks for all your posts in 2013 - love your humor and insights.

As for my writing, I'm going to do what they say in Alcoholics Anonymous: Do the next right thing.

I'm going to try to keep it simple. Write, revise, submit. Repeat. And enjoy this writing life I've worked so hard to create. Keep learning, above all!

I've put together a collection of short stories and a poetry chapbook, and I hope to publish one or both in the coming year.
