Thing is, I probably wouldn't have gotten this far in the blog, let alone have two books coming out this fall and regular writing gigs with a few magazines, if it weren't for Kerrie Flanagan and her Northern Colorado Writers organization. See, though I've been a writer for most of my life, the prose I produced pre-NCW wasn't as glorious as it is now. It was okay, but there was room for improvement. By joining NCW I got a tremendous education in writing thanks to its sponsored workshops and annual conference. Heck, I'd probably be using 'that' every other word if I didn't learn about its emptiness from conference presenter Sandi Ault.
Without Northern Colorado Writers I wouldn't have joined my current critique group, completed my first NaNoWriMo book, pitched Paradise Not Quite Lost to an agent, or taught numerous classes. In addition, Paradise Not Quite Lost may not have been published, my critique group's anthology, Fissures, wouldn't have come to fruition, and I wouldn't be master of the NCW Facebook page without the encouragement and friendship of everyone involved in this writing organization. In the end, I think my writing life may have been much different, if not non-existent, if I never joined Northern Colorado Writers.
This is why I've decided to take on the cheerleader role this month and ask you to join NCW as part of our Membership Drive. I'm not asking for much -- 30 new members in 30 days -- and I won't interrupt your scheduled programming for a constant barrage of requests to call our phone lines to make a donation. Frankly, I don't think I have any phone lines. It is the 21st century after all.
What I'm asking you do to is watch this and other spaces on this blog, the NCW website, and the Facebook page to see what you can get by signing up for a membership to our writing group. You don't even have to live in Northern Colorado to join. We just hope you sign up for the online courses, community, and knowledge to become a better writer on the road to publication.
We're looking for 30 members in 30 days. I hope you'll be one of them.
