Memoirs-Getting Started

What I am currently reading: Into Thin Air

If you have decided to or are in the process of writing a memoir, you know the task can be overwhelming at times. Let's face it; you have a lifetime of events and memories to choose from. So, how do you get started? Since I am not a memoir writer myself, I did what any good journalist would do--I went straight to Google. I found some great articles and even a radio interview that will help you on your memoir writing journey.

William Zinsser, author of the classic guide On Writing Well, talks to Michele Norris (NPR) about the challenges of writing personal history.

How To Write A Memoir To Remember-(blog entry)

How to Write a Memoir: Everyone Has a Story to Tell by Roselyn James

How To Write a Memoir-Jasmyne Boswell

Creative Non-Fiction. Memoir. How to Write a Memoir-Julia Unggai

Hopefully these articles will help you get started in the right direction with you memoir.

Happy Writing!

The next post will share a list of already published memoirs for you to read and study.
