This is the Year!

Originally written on December 20, 2007

The theme for the 2008 Northern Colorado Writers Conference is, "This is the Year!" I picked the theme because I want 2008 to be the year you take that next big step with your writing. Another reason for this theme is because this is the year I take the conference to another level by bringing in editors, agents, 2 keynote speakers, read & critique sessions, a better trade show, bookstore and more presenters.

I am so excited to be able to offer more to the participants this year. I have 2 agents confirmed and 1 more still considering it. Kristin Nelson, with Nelson Literary Agency will be at the conference hearing pitches, being part of a panel and presenting one workshop. I have heard Kristin present and she is wonderful. The other agent I have is Rachelle Gardner with Wordserve Literary . She is a new agent, but not new to the world of publishing. She will also be hearing pitches, be on a panel and presenting one workshop .

The editors I currently have are Matthew Davis with Ghost Road Press , Faith Marcovecchio with Fulcrum Books and Craig Nelson with Loveland Press. One of the keynote speakers, Chuck Sambuchino, is the editor for the Literary Guide to Agents. He won't be hearing pitches, but he will be critiquing query letters and presenting workshops. There are couple more editors I am talking to and will keep you posted.

Before the conference, I highly recommend that you read up on each of these publishing companies and agencies to see what kind of work they publish or represent. Look at their book lists, read about their history and read their blogs. Kristin, Rachelle and Chuck each have a blog and they have a lot of great information included in them.

Visit the conference website often and my blog stay up to date with the latest conference news.

Happy Writing!
